Phase 1 UK  January 15-18, 2023

Sensory Bridges, the Direction of Ease and an osteopathic view of “The Health”

Offered by Christian Sullivan DO, assisted by Richard Metliss BSc (hons) Ost, this course begins our study of this traditional and holistic view of osteopathy.

We begin by reviewing where we are, the width of treatment methodologies in osteopathy, and with practical sessions explore how we are using our hands and senses now. So often an osteopaths hands have moved on from their early learning phase of practice, to embrace a much more synchronised palpatory and sensory alignment, yet they are stuck with a language which only poorly fits their need. We will work to understand our own “style”, and begin to create and agree a new sensory language.

Our study will take us over significant “sensory bridges”. Moving from balanced membranous tension (BMT) as motion testing to create a balance point as our treatment principle, through to allowing synchronisation with the existing motion in the lesion pattern, to create an augmentation of the motion present as our treatment principle. We also begin our acknowledgment of the stillness of the fulcrum as the organising principle behind the motion expressed. Extending this idea into the realm of balanced fluid tension (BFT), we can begin to understand better the shape changes described by Dr Sutherland  as primary respiration’s inhalation and exhalation, expressed as both inter and intra osseous motion, within connective tissues, and indeed every cell and fluid within the human body. “Every drop knows the Tide”, WG Sutherland.

Through group discussion, lecture and supported practical sessions the course directs it’s study towards the fundamental building blocks for the Biodynamic model of, Neutral – Direction of Ease – Fulcrums – Health and Wholeness.

Osteopathic students across a wide range of of training and experience report a sense of “coming home” when introduced to theis language, concepts and practical experiences. The sensory language created by Dr Jealous has filled a void long in need of recognition in osteopathy. A very practical and for some revelationary course, with concepts and content for immediate use in the practice.

Course Timetable: A residential course designed to develop a community of osteopathic study, the course has a unique timetable tempo developed by Dr Jealous over many years. Whilst unfamiliar at first, osteopaths soon come to appreciate the timetable as perfect for this work.
